Green Hill Baptist Celebrates 60th Homecoming

Pastor Rader

Pastor Rader stands beside the bell at Green Hill Baptist Church. The bell is from an old steam locomotive and was donated to the church in 1948 when the church was first organized. The bell resided in the steeple of the original sanctuary until it was torn down to make room for the new fellowship hall and educational wing.

Bell Mounted

The bell was mounted on its permanent base during homecoming and dedication ceremonies September 28th.
Beneath the bell is a time capsule that will be opened in 50 years. The capsule contains historical church records, pictures, the bible that Pastor Rader used for this occasion and other items of interest.
Eleven year old Mason Bevis (pink shirt), great grandson of charter member Sara  Anderson, was given the key to the time capsule. He will be 61 when it is removed.

Ministry opportunity for Area Churches

Multihousing Ministry

Ellen Chapman, Coordinator

Praise God for His wonderful provisions and good timing. Thanks to the summer missionaries and some great workers from Scenic Drive, we had a wonderful VBS at the Hope Center in Byrnwood Park. The children were excited about the Outrigger Island theme and music. They were very receptive to the message of Jesus as the truth. We sowed seed for the Holy Spirit to work in their hearts. We are looking for others to follow up on this ministry and keep the message fresh in their hearts. There is still a need for a team to work at the Hope Center on Wednesday or Thursday afternoons from 4:00 – 5:30 pm. Help with homework is greatly needed along with Bible study. Please let me know if you are willing to help in this service. The children are courteous and will be very attentive. Contact me at 890-8672. There is also a need for a weekly Bible study at Wyndover Apartments to assist a church that is serving there. There are so many children that need some spiritual teaching. Won’t you please help them learn the real truth? Pray that the Lord of the harvest will send forth laborers into His harvest field.

If you would like for your special church event to be featured on this website please email us with the information.

From the Desk of . . .

J. David Pittman, Director of Missions

Our association is in the process of preparing a budget to be presented at our next annual meeting in October. The Finance Committee is taking the lead in this process as our Constitution and By-laws states that they should. They will have a recommended budget at the appointed time. They are in the unenviable position of coming to terms with the fact that these are uncertain times in the financial world and our association is in the process of transitioning into a new paradigm of ministry.

Every where you look these days there are signs of financial difficulty in our national economy. This shows itself in many ways. Some examples of this are the depressed housing market, tight money in the banking industry, high cost for food, faltering automobile sales, and the high price of gasoline. These and other factors have a strong negative impact on every aspect of our economy. Our churches are part of society and most are experiencing financial difficulties also. Just because a church is involved in accomplishing the Lord’s work on earth does not make it immune to societal difficulties.

When our churches experiences financial difficulties it is only natural for our association to experience these same difficulties. This is because our only source of funds to make up our associational budget comes from our churches. When the economy experiences difficulties it is only natural for our churches to experiences difficulties. And when our churches experience difficulties it is only natural for our association to experience difficulties. This is the natural course of events.

Compounding this problem is the fact that we are in the midst of transitioning into a new way of functioning as an association. We are changing our focus from associational focus to church focus. Associational led ministry is not our goal but empowering our churches to their God called ministry is our goal. The new associational structure we voted on last annual meeting reflects this change.

I share this information with you to encourage you to be in prayer for this entire budgeting process. Pray that the Lord will give us all wisdom in dealing with the current economic reality. We need God’s wisdom in how to best fulfill our purpose.

Also, churches are encouraged to review their current giving level to the association and increase this amount if possible. If each of us does a little it will add up to a lot and this will help in the coming year.
